The vignetted ladies appear to be in the clouds. It's an artistic technique popularized by John Whipple and by Southworth & Hawes, although other daguerreotypists used it as well. The back has been re-silvered.

CONDITION. Modern seals (not by us). Heavy horizontal buff marks in the top portion. Very good condition.
APPEARANCE. Excellent contrast. The subtle facial tint is a plus. A dreamy portrait.
