DAGUERREOTYPE FROM THE VERY EARLY 1840s
WITH
EXCELLENT FLIP TOP CASE

This is a very good example, and reasonably priced, for an institution or private collector. Itís not often one gets an early flip top case in this very good to excellent condition.

Characteristics of daguerreotypes from the early 1840s:
Often have flip top cases (but not always).
Square cut paper or paper foil (like this one) mats.
Primitive look, appearing 'flat.'

The woman holds an album, which has a clasp. She has bottleneck curls, and wears spectacles and a bonnet.

DAGUERREOTYPE
$850. USD

DAGUERREOTYPE FROM THE VERY EARLY 1840s
SIZE
Sixth plate.
HOUSING
Flip top case. Original spine. Very good condition, which is rare. I would guess that the preserver was added later.
CONDITION
Resealed (not by us). Spots, including on her face and a few down her dress. Striations on the perimeter. Heavy buff marks as is universal in early daguerreotypes.
APPEARANCE
Lots of content for such an early image. The hands are amazingly life-like, despite the primitive nature of the image.
