BLACK COUPLE, 1880s OHIO
CABINET CARD PHOTO
$100. USD
This is a beautiful vignette of a presumedly married couple. The man looks relaxed and settled as he looks directly at us. He has a pronounced goatee and the hair on his head is cropped very short. The woman looks a bit less settled as she looks towards the left. She wears a large bow and patterned dress. They both stayed perfectly still for the camera.
PHOTOGRAPHER. At the bottom of the mount: "G. L. Grow, PARK STUDIO, Gallipolis, Ohio."
SIZE. Approximately 4 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches.
CONDITION. Photo: Some discoloration on man's jacket. Light soiling, which includes spots and marks. When tilted, scuffing is apparent. Mount: Tear at bottom. Front has some soiling. Back has some wear at corners and some soiling.
APPEARANCE. Masterful lighting. Very good tones, except where discolored. Very good tonal range. Exceptional clarity. This is a gorgeous portrait.
