AFRICAN AMERICAN CIVIL WAR SOLDIER

PRESUMABLY HIS WIFE,
WITH PERIOD INK

Each CDV is from New Haven, Connecticut. Each has the same writing on reverse, in period ink: "Grace Le Moore."

THE SOLDIER. The soldier wears a frock coat, a kepi on his head, and white sword gloves on his hands, while he hold the sword aloft. Backmark: "CARTES DE VISITE BY Wells & Collins NEW HAVEN, 308 Chapel Street."

THE WIFE. She’s beautiful in her full-length skirt and blouse with puffy sleeves. Backmark: "W. HUNT'S Photograph Gallery, 332 Chapel Street, New Haven, Conn."

Each is approximately 4 x 2 1/2 inches.
CONDITION
SOLDIER: Photo - Stain at upper right. Stain along left edge. Spots, other soiling, and some foxing. Scuffing, more apparent when tilted. Mount - Missing tip of lower left corner. Wear at other corners, and a bit of wear also along top edge. Front has a stain at lower right, as well as other soiling. Back has a stain at upper left, as well as other soiling. WIFE: Photo - Spots and soiling. A couple tiny bits of missing emulsion in top portion. Scuffing, more apparent when tilted. Some wear along top edge. Mount - Wear at corners and along top edge. Spots and soiling, front and back.
APPEARANCE
SOLDIER: Very good tones. Nice use of color. Wonderful lighting on his face. Great pose. WIFE: Very good tones. Great details, textures, and patterns.
