The young man stands tall in his pinstripe pants. He holds his prized guitar straight up. The wicker furniture gives the illusion of a bigger studio, but the photographer information, at the bottom of the mount, gives us the context: "Drum, Rail Road Photo. Car."

DATE. Likely circa 1880s.

SIZE. Approximately 6 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches.

CONDITION. Photo: Spots and marks. Horizontal scratch starts on the neck of the guitar and goes through the man's knee. Lower left corner appears to be creased and bent backwards. Lower right corner tip is no longer affixed to mount. Mount: Some wear at corners. Small crease and/or a raised area at top edge. Soiling on front. Heavy soiling on back.

APPEARANCE. The right side of his face is washed out against the background. Otherwise, good tones. Sharp details. His height is apparent. Nice pose and composition.
