It's wonderful that the daguerreotypist posed them at the same height. It allows for a special intimacy. Look at the father's eyes and dimples, and his finely detailed cool weather attire. The girl holds red and yellow flowers. Her dress is tinted a light shade of orange or peach.

SIZE. Sixth plate.

HOUSING. Very good and attractive 1840s case with an expertly done new spine.

CONDITION. Lots of tarnish. Mat abrasions. Mold spider by his collar. (Mold spider is a misnomer, it's really deposits of glass.) Other spotting. Resealed in 2011 (not by us).

APPEARANCE. Color is a plus. Masterful composition. A beautiful father-daughter portrait.
