The handsome guitar player has both hands engaged. How do we know he's sensitive? He tells us with a nod of his head. That's what makes this image sing!

There's handwriting inside the case: "Cleveland Ohio Dec. 7 - 1858" and "For Charlie." The 1858 date fits nicely in the timeline of ambrotypes.

This is a ruby glass ambrotype. Ambrotypes are positive images on glass and need black backing in order to be seen. The exception is ruby glass ambrotypes which are on colored glass and don't require black backing.

SIZE. Sixth plate.

HOUSING. Brown thermoplastic union case with geometric and floral designs. The clasp works. Good condition.

CONDITION. Very good condition.

APPEARANCE. Excellent contrast. Wonderful, natural pose. A gorgeous portrait.
