This is a very large and attractive brooch containing two photographs, likely of a daughter (tintype) and mother (photo on leather, called a pannotype). It's a rare item.

LIKELY DAUGHTER. Sharp and well-defined. The young woman wears an abundance of gold gilded jewelry. Very good contrast.

LIKELY MOTHER. When tilted, the image is uneven and exhibits residue. Brown spots in the middle.

SIZE. Each oval photo is approximately 7/8 of an inch by 5/8 of an inch. The entire brooch is approximately 1 3/4 x 1 1/2 inches.

APPEARANCE. A lovely piece.
