Although I tend towards this being gold and California, I don't know that it's not some other mineral or some other locale. Regardless, it's a rare depiction of miners working a claim. We see sluices (or long toms) traversing the hill. There are two men in the foreground and at least four men in the large crater behind. Up above, a woman stands in the doorway of a log cabin.

SIZE. Approximately 4 3/16 x 3 3/16 inches.

CONDITION. It's an especially thick tintype, so no bends. Poor to fair condition: general wear, pitting, scratches.

APPEARANCE. Excellent composition. Incredible content.
