GIRL WITH PAINTED BOATS BEHIND HER
HALF PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE
$1050. USD
The girl leans, likely at the direction of the daguerreotypist, to show us the water scene behind. Her hand is firmly planted on the chair. She wears an off-shoulder dress in a subtle shade of blue.
SIZE. Half plate.
HOUSING. Half case.
CONDITION. White spot on the chair may be light reflecting, or it could be a spot of mercury. Circle of gold on her upper chest looks like it was a gold pendant. A couple light brown spots on her: one just above her waist at right, and the other at the bottom of her dress. A couple of whitish areas in the water. Bad glass replaced with hand-cut, high-quality, borosilicate glass by Derek French. Resealed.
APPEARANCE. Very good contrast. Wonderful backdrop. Great composition. A lovely portrait.
