This view features marvelous details on the extensive operation of the Sudbury Aqueduct. Handwritten on the back: "No. 6. Sudbury River Conduit B.W.W. Div. 4. Sec. 15. View from Needham side Aug. 17, 1876."

PHOTOGRAPHER. Blindstamp at lower right corner of the mount: "Black & Co."

James Wallace Black worked for the esteemed photographer John Whipple before setting up practice on his own. Black was an elite photographer, credited with being the first American photographer to make aerial photographs. He did so utilizing a hot air balloon.

SIZE. Approximately 3 7/8 x 6 15/16 inches.

CONDITION. Both sides: Very good condition. Mount: Some wear at corners and around edges. Back has a small gray mark and other light soiling.

APPEARANCE. Very good tones to both sides, but the right side is richer and deeper. Excellent depth of field. Exceptionally sharp details, and so many of them! This is a fantastic view.
